- 🌡️ Cozumel is warm year-round thanks to its tropical climate

- 💧 Humidity is always present but peaks in late summer… and be mindful of the dew point
- 🌀 Hurricane season: June through November

- 🌧️ Wet season: May through October (with August–October being the wettest)
Here’s a breakdown of Cozumel monthly weather to help you plan smarter
January: Cool, Calm and Crowds
Avg Temp: 73–82°F (23–28°C)
Rainfall: Low
Humidity: Moderate
Dew point: 68°F (20°C)
If you’re looking for the most comfortable weather in Cozumel, January is a winner. It’s part of the dry season, so rain is rare, skies are blue, and the humidity is manageable.
✅ Best for: Scuba diving, biking, Mayan ruins, cruise stopovers
🚫 Watch out for: Slightly cooler water temps if you’re sensitive to cold
Travel Tip: Pack a light sweater for the evenings and be sure to book tours early, high season means bigger crowds and faster sellouts!
Lisa’s Local Tip: We plan our dining-out around the weather! When the dew point is low, we choose eating outside at places like Kondesa or on the rooftop at Serrano. But once that dew point climbs above 71°F, we opt for indoor spots with good A/C like Azul Madera, Sorrisi’s or anywhere else we can cool off and relax.
February: Dry Skies and High Spirits
Avg Temp: 74–83°F (23–28°C)
Rainfall: Very low
Humidity: Low
Dew point: 69°F (21°C)
✅ Best for: Beach lounging, paddle boarding, day trips to Punta Sur
🚫 Be on the look-out for: Carnival (usually in February). It’s fun but brings crowds and higher prices
Lisa’s Local Tip: February is great because of the picture-perfect weather and fewer holiday crowds than January and because it’s one of THE best months for good hair days, since temps and dew points, are at their lowest.
March: Spring Break with a Breeze
Avg Temp: 75–85°F (24–29°C)
Rainfall: Low
Humidity: Moderate
Dew point: 69°F (20°C)
Spring breakers are arriving, mainly families with school-age kids (nothing like the Coco-Bongo crowds in Cancun) but March still offers incredible weather. Warm days, breezy evenings, and clear water, make it ideal for all outdoor activities.
✅ Best for: Snorkeling at El Cielo, rooftop dining in San Miguel
🚫 Watch out for: Higher hotel prices, especially mid-month
Packing Tip: Bring reef-safe sunscreen and a dry bag for boat tours. Both are essential this time of year.
April: Sunshine Superstar
Avg Temp: 77–87°F (25–31°C)
Rainfall: Low–moderate (increases late in month)
Humidity: Rising
Dew point: 73°F (23°C)
April brings sunny skies and warm seas, perfect beach weather without summer’s intense heat. It’s also your last shot before the rainy season begins.
✅ Best for: Sunset cruises, visiting San Gervasio ruins
🚫 Watch out for: Heat during the midday hours. Plan excursions early in the day
What to Pack: Breathable clothing, sun hat, reusable water bottle
Lisa’s Local Tip: Sargassum seaweed arrives in Cozumel between April and October, with the worst of it showing up May through August. We once took friends from a cruise over to the east side of the island, and we were sorely disappointed by how much seaweed there was. Lesson learned!
Since then, I always check the Red Sargazo Facebook page to see the current conditions before renting a car and heading that way. If you’re sticking to the cruise ship (west) side, though, you’re usually in the clear.
May: Start of the Rainy Season in Cozumel
Avg Temp: 78–88°F (26–31°C)
Rainfall: Increasing
Humidity: High
Dew point: 74°F (23°C)
May marks the transition to the wet season. Rain showers may appear, usually in the late afternoon, but don’t let that stop you. The mornings are typically sunny.
✅ Best for: Whale shark tours (starting late May), fewer crowds
🚫 Watch out for: Sticky air and the start of mosquito season
Lisa’s Local Tip: I beg you, don’t mess around with mosquitoes during the rainy season. I was bitten and got dengue in 2019, and let me tell you, it’s not just a bad flu. It knocked me out for 2 solid weeks. Now, I never leave the house without DEET-based repellent. Skip the essential oils and go for the real stuff, your vacation (and health) isn’t worth the risk!
June: Hot, Humid and Hurricane-Watch Ready
Avg Temp: 79–89°F (26–32°C)
Rainfall: Moderate–high
Humidity: Very high
Dew point: 77°F (25°C)
Welcome to summer in Cozumel… It’s hot, humid, and lush! Everything you’d expect from a tropical island paradise. June officially kicks off hurricane season, although early-season storms are rare, expect short, intense bursts of rain followed by sunshine and blue skies.
✅ Best for: Off-season deals on hotels, lush jungle landscapes
🚫 Watch out for: Flash rain, sweat-soaked days
Budget Tip: This is a great time for deals on all-inclusive resorts and tours.
Lisa’s Local Tip: Want the latest storm updates? Check NOAA.com for current-year forecasts and storm names. It’s great way to stay informed, just in case!
July: Warm Waters, Warm Nights
Hurricane Laura to the north of Cozumel in late summer 2020
Avg Temp: 79–89°F (26–32°C)
Rainfall: High
Humidity: Peak
Dew point: 76°F (24°C)
July in Cozumel is steamy. Opt for local art festivals in the evening. Low season rates make it a good pick for those who enjoy the heat.
✅ Best for: Coral reef snorkeling, cenote day trips on the mainland
🚫 Watch out for: Intense midday heat! Stay hydrated!
August: Rainy But Affordable
Avg Temp: 79–89°F (26–32°C)
Rainfall: High
Humidity: Very high
Dew point: 77°F (25°C)
✅ Best for: Budget travelers, scuba diving (warmer deeper waters)
🚫 Watch out for: Hurricane potential. Consider travel insurance that covers delays or cancellations due to weather, especially during peak hurricane months (Aug-Sept).
Lisa’s Local Tip: August afternoons often bring dramatic downpours, like something out of a movie. I always tell friends visiting this month to pack a lightweight poncho. Be flexible with your plans.
September: Storm Season
Avg Temp: 78–88°F (26–31°C)
Rainfall: Highest of the year
Humidity: Oppressive
Dew point: 77°F (25°C)
✅ Best for: Solo travelers, flexible planners, and storm watchers
🚫 Watch out for: Closures, tropical storms, and unpredictable conditions
Lisa’s Local Tip: While Cozumel hurricane season officially starts in June, September is the height of most hurricane activity. Many businesses take this month off, and tourism drops dramatically. Consider postponing if you want guaranteed beach days.
October: Rain Tapers, Heat Lingers
Avg Temp: 77–87°F (25–31°C)
Rainfall: Moderate–high
Humidity: Still high
Dew point: 76°F (24°C)
October begins to dry out, though showers are still common. The upside? Gorgeous sunsets and quiet beaches.
✅ Best for: Romantic getaways, low crowd levels
🚫 Watch out for: Mosquitoes and muddy inland paths
Lisa’s Local Tip: Don’t completely rule out hurricanes just because the season is starting to wind down. In 2020, we experienced three hurricanes in just three weeks, and trust me, we were totally stressed out and unprepared!
I use Mike’s Weather Page (Facebook group) daily for commentary and updates. For detailed satellite maps, I also visit their website; SpaghettiModels.com. Both are excellent resources if you’re traveling during hurricane season!
November: Cool Change Arrives
Avg Temp: 75–85°F (24–29°C)
Rainfall: Decreasing
Humidity: Easing
Dew point: 72°F (22°C)
November is one of Cozumel’s best-kept secrets. The air starts to dry, temps ease, and prices stay reasonable before the holiday rush.
✅ Best for: Food tours, boutique hotel stays, cultural festivals (like Day of the Dead)
🚫 Sudden cool fronts (El Norte winds) may cause ferry closures. Anytime the winds are out of the north and over 15 MPH, there’s a good chance the ferry port will be closed.
Lisa’s Local Tip: I plan my ferry crossings during this time of year before I go to shop in Playa del Carmen, as I was once stranded there. Now I use Wind Finder to get an idea of what the situation will be for the upcoming week so that never happens again.
December: Holiday High Season
Avg Temp: 73–83°F (23–28°C)
Rainfall: Low
Humidity: Moderate
Dew point: 71°F (22°C)
The dry season returns just in time for Christmas. December is breezy, beautiful, and buzzing with activity. Book a food tour + boutique stay early, before the holiday rush
✅ Best for: Family trips, scuba diving, Christmas in paradise
🚫 Watch out for: High prices, full hotels, and limited selections

From June through September, Cozumel’s humidity levels soar, and the dew point often hits 76–77°F, which can feel sticky and oppressive. Plan outdoor activities in the morning, take midday breaks in A/C spots, and don’t forget to hydrate.
