Spectacular floats and costumes light up the night during the Cozumel Carnaval Parade, one of the most exciting festivals of the year.

When is the best time to visit Cozumel for low crowds and lower prices?

If you’re looking to enjoy Cozumel without the bustle of peak tourism, aim for late April through early June, or September through early November. These months see fewer cruise ships, better hotel deals, and quieter beaches which make it ideal for those who want a slower-paced island vibe. Bonus: you’ll still find some unique cultural events sprinkled in, even in the off-season.

When is the best time to visit Cozumel for nature and seasonal highlights?

For nature lovers, late May to September brings nesting sea turtles, and August offers prime stargazing during the Perseid Meteor Shower. Whale shark tours (on the mainland) are popular June through September, while the spring and fall equinoxes offer fascinating Mayan heritage events at nearby ruins. Plan around these natural wonders for a trip that’s as scenic as it is memorable.

What’s the weather like during Cozumel’s holiday and festival season?

From December through April, Cozumel enjoys sunny skies, low humidity, and warm-but-comfortable temperatures, making it ideal for attending outdoor festivals. June through November is hurricane season, but most storms occur in late summer to early fall. Even then, events often go ahead as planned, and rain showers are typically short-lived.

When is the best time to visit Cozumel for major sporting events?

November is the island’s biggest month for sports, with the Ironman Cozumel triathlon and the GFNY cycling race drawing athletes from around the globe. September also hosts the Ironman 70.3 and AsTri triathlons, while May features the Mexican Boat Rodeo fishing tournament. If you love high-energy, competitive events, these dates are worth marking on your calendar.

When is the best time to visit Cozumel for festivals and cultural celebrations?

February’s Carnaval is the crown jewel of Cozumel’s festival calendar, filling the streets with parades, music, and dancing. May’s Sacred Mayan Crossing offers a moving glimpse into ancient traditions, while September’s Independence Day celebrations pulse with Mexican pride. December’s Las Posadas and Virgin of Guadalupe Day are perfect for travelers wanting an authentic holiday-season experience.

How do public holiday closures affect travel plans in Cozumel?

On major Mexican public holidays like, banks and many government offices close, and some businesses may have reduced hours. Most tourist-oriented shops, restaurants, and beach clubs remain open, but plan certain tours around these dates to avoid last-minute surprises.

How far in advance should I book hotels for Cozumel’s major events?

For big draws like Carnaval, Ironman Cozumel, and major holiday weeks (Semana Santa, Christmas, and New Year’s), book accommodations at least 6–9 months in advance. Many hotels along parade routes and near event venues sell out early, and rates climb closer to the date. Securing your stay ahead of time guarantees the best locations and prices. Don’t wait. By the time you decide, rates may already have jumped.

Where can I find the official Cozumel events calendar?

There’s no single “master” calendar for every Cozumel event, and while the Cozumel Municipal Government (Ayuntamiento) does post updates, it’s in Spanish and can be tricky to navigate. That’s why we created the Cozumel Connection’s Cozumel Holiday, Event and Festival Schedule. It’s your all-in-one, easy-to-read monthly guide to major holidays, cultural festivals, sporting events, and even bank closures. It’s everything you need in one place so you can plan your trip like a local and never miss the island’s biggest moments.
